HOW I WEAN MY BABIES
When I wean my babies I feed a large variety of foods every day. So that they
learn to eat everything. A baby weaned on just seed or pellets does not learn to
eat a healthy diet. I have seed and pellets out for them all the time but every day
I give something different for fresh food. One day they may get apple, carrot,
banana's, cheese. They always get the rice mix below on the fresh food plate.
Then the next day they may get dry fruit-loops, some type of vegetable, pizza or
what ever we had for dinner that night and so on. A variety fed young makes
healthier adults.
TOYS
Remember toys are important they keep your friend happy and busy. The only
toy I
do not recommend is a mirror. Your bird  can bond with the bird in the
mirror then it does not need you for companionship and will even sometimes
try to protect the bird in the mirror buy  becoming aggressive with you.
SPRAYING AND MISTING
This is important it helps keep the dust and dander down and your birds will
love it! They will throw there wings out and bob up and down in a kind of dance
and when you are done they will preen until they are almost dry!
FEEDING ADULTS
This is the way I feed my pets and adult breeders: I always have pellets out for
them then I alternate the seed one day then fresh food plates with the rice mix
below the next. I prefer Mazuri pellets but Pretty bird pellets are also good and
easier to get. Mazuri pellets can be ordered normally where ever parina
products are sold. Usually a local livestock feed store.
RICE RECIPE
Brown Rice
FROZEN VEGETABLES: ( Peas, carrots, corn, green bean mix)
Cook rice as directed on package except do not add quite as much water as
called for. This way your rice will not be mushy. After the rice is done cooking
add it to the frozen vegetables. Do not cook the vegetables they will loose
nutrition if the are cooked.  Put into baggies or small containers and freeze the
rest of the mixture that you will not be using in the next few days. This is great
mixture for weaning babies. Don't forget to add fresh fruit and vegetable
pieces also on the side.

Do NOT feed your bird chocolate, the seed from an apple or avocado these
are toxic to them. Also limit the salt intake. You will find out your birds favorite
foods by feeding them what you are eating. The more people food that they
eat the healthier and longer lives they will live. Make sure they get a large
variety of vegetables and fruits as this is their primary diet in the wild.

Do Not use products that have fluorocarbons such as air fresheners in cans,
hairspray, Pam etc. Any products under pressure that are in cans have
fluorocarbons and these are very toxic to them. Do not use strong cleaners
such as oven cleaner, ammonia, and these types of cleaners. If it smells
strong to you it is probably toxic to your bird.
Counter
I have been reading some of the parrot forums of and on. One of the main concerns
people seem to have is to feed a completely natural diet or supplement with pellets.
Personally I will keep supplementing with pellets and this is my reasoning. Our
vegetables and fruits are picked before ripe they are also mainly hybridized now.
They are shipped cross country which takes days and days to reach the markets so
much of the nutrients are lost or where never there thats why even though you are
eating a balanced diet per say they suggest a one a day vitamin. Hence I will keep
feeding pellets I believe with the "fresh" foods, seed and pellets that there nutritional
requirements are met. I was also told once buy a nutritionist that if you want to get
the maximum nutritional value out of your veggies to buy frozen. They are picked
ripe and immediately quick frozen so the nutrients are not lost.
Microwaves:
Microwaves are awesome when a person is in a hurry. But did you know that
buy using it to warm up food for yourself or your pets most of the nutrients are
zapped out?
