Weaning Baby Parrots:
Here you will once again find my opinion:
This time it is on getting your baby parrot to begin eating something other
then the hand feeding formula.
I have received a few inquires on how to start a baby parrot eating food.

When the babies are approximately 1 month old I put seed and pellets out for
them "ALL" the time. I also put out fresh food plates with a rice mix on it
everyday! Do they eat it right away....no...but what you will see is the baby
playing with it. Getting a taste for the different foods offered.
You can feed them "ALMOST ANYTHING" exceptions are
avocado,caffeine,alcohol,seed from an apple,chocolate.

Foods you may want to limit quantity spinach, celery, lettuce, sugar, salt and
milk. Spinach in large quantities can leach calcium, celery and lettuce are high
water content and they love it......it just takes more energy to digest then the
food value. Milk they have problems digesting milk.
Cheese's, cottage cheese, yogurt are all good for them and my opinion do not
need to be limited.

Below are some of my babies and how the food is presented to them. This
particular plate has chopped bananas, apples, oranges, fruit loops and a rice
mix with veggies in it. My babies get the fresh food
EVERYDAY and
EVERYDAY they get something different on it
! I like pie plates because
they are low and they can't tip them over. The seed and pellets are fed in
regular crocks.

I also set at night watching TV and playing with the babies and when I do I
hand feed them different things smashed bananas, little pieces of nuts, what
ever I am snacking on. Peanut butter just..........................whatever. The
babies below are Blue and Gold Macaw Babies at about 2 months old they will
have been offered different foods for the last month.
